What are some of thest methods to remove rust from a car? Has anyone tried Electrolytic Rust Removal devices?

I’d use the newest & most technologically advanced rust prevention system made by KBS Coatings. Their prep products are enhanced w/ oxygen block inhibitors and their rust preventive paint beats the old standard (Por15). KBS RustSeal is also a moisture-cured nonporous coating but it has much better UV stability, better pigment dispersion which means better adhesion & long term coating performance, richer deeper colors & self-leveling uniform sheens. It also has a faster even cure time which jobbers like myself like.

I believe they are rust protection systems and not rust removal systems. The only way to remove rust is to grind it or cut it out.

What would happen if you just put some CLR on it & rinsed it off? That stuff is wicked & will definetly remove rust. Would that work on a car? I don’t know why it wouldn’t.
Good luck with it!

The electrolytic devices are designed to prevent rust. Once rust has started it can’t be returned to steel without re-smelting it.

Once rust is there, it’s there for good.
But you can prevent it getting worse by excluding the oxygen and you can do this by smearing the area with oil or grease or Vaseline.
Not very pretty, but it sure does work.

I think that it is a waste of money using these so called rust removers and the like.

The VERY best way to remove rust is to cut and replace the rusted metal with new replacement metal. Then protect it from the elements. If this is not an option for you, then I highly recomend the rust inhibiting paint made by POR15. It has a high metal content and will prevent rust from "growing" or spreading. I used it on a 68 mustang’s floor that had a rust hole on one of the floorboards. The rust stopped from spreading and the paint is over 10 years old now. This is just my $0.02. Hope it helps.
